Bug#356088: samba: package talloc as a separate library

2006-03-09 Thread Y Giridhar Appaji Nag
Package: samba
Severity: wishlist

talloc, the hierarchical pool based memory allocator used in samba is
also used by other free software (like xenstore). It might be a good
idea to strip it out from the samba source, create a libtalloc package
and let samba/xenstore depend on it. The library can also be used
standalone by others wanting to use the talloc allocator.

No, I'm not going to mangle the Samba packages to break out a library that
isn't supported by upstream for such use.

I agree doing this in debian only is not the right way.
However, I guess talloc is thought to be a library used out of samba.
See http://talloc.samba.org/

I think if there is any need for the talloc lib so might package it...

Mario

Please be aware that libtalloc will be debianized as part of the Samba4
packages, once Samba4 starts using shared libraries internally. We're
currently working on that, so you might see libtalloc packages (in
experimental) as soon as April.

Cheers,

Jelmer
