Bug#360538: Logging into Gnome session exits immediately
Hi, About a year ago, you reported (or replied to) a bug in the Debian BTS regarding logging into Gnome exiting immediately. Did any of you guys reproduce this problem recently? With Xorg/Etch? With latest xserver-xorg-core and drivers? If not, I will close this bug in the next weeks. Thanks, Brice -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe". Trouble? Bug#360538: Logging into Gnome session exits immediately
I had this exact problem (gnome-session exits; no problem with other user accounts nor with startx). "chmod a+x $HOME" made it work. Thanks Eric, for pointing me to the solution. -- Karl 2006-04-25 01:18 -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe". Trouble? Contact [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Bug#360538: Logging into Gnome session exits immediately
Package: gdm Version: 2.13.0.10-2 Severity: important This is a strange one. With my current user, logging in using the Gnome session type (and the Gnome Fail Safe session as well) exits immediately (right after entering the password). I created a new user account and it works alright. I deleted the usual suspects (.gnome2, .gconf, a few more) and I still saw the failure. If you can suggest a way to debug this I'd be very happen to provide more information. /var/log/gdm was not very helpful, and neither was .xsession-errors file. -- System Information: Debian Release: testing/unstable APT prefers unstable APT policy: (500, 'unstable'), (1, 'experimental') Architecture: i386 (i686) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Kernel: Linux 2.6.16 Locale: LANG=en_CA.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_CA.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Versions of packages gdm depends on: ii adduser 3.85Add and remove users and groups ii debconf [debconf-2.0 1.4.72 Debian configuration management sy ii gksu 1.3.6-1 graphical frontend to su ii gnome-session2.14.0-1The GNOME 2 Session Manager ii gnome-terminal [x-te 2.14.0-1The GNOME 2 terminal emulator appl ii libart-2.0-2 2.3.17-1Library of functions for 2D graphi ii libatk1.0-0 1.11.4-1The ATK accessibility toolkit ii libattr1 2.4.32-1Extended attribute shared library ii libc62.3.6-4 GNU C Library: Shared libraries an ii libcairo21.0.2-3 The Cairo 2D vector graphics libra ii libdmx1 6.9.0.dfsg.1-5 Distributed Multihead X client lib ii libfontconfig1 2.3.2-5 generic font configuration library ii libglade2-0 1:2.5.1-2 library to load .glade files at ru ii libglib2.0-0 2.10.1-2The GLib library of C routines ii libgnomecanvas2-02.14.0-1A powerful object-oriented display ii libgtk2.0-0 2.8.16-1The GTK+ graphical user interface ii libpam-modules 0.79-3.1Pluggable Authentication Modules f ii libpam-runtime 0.79-3.1Runtime support for the PAM librar ii libpam0g 0.79-3.1Pluggable Authentication Modules l ii libpango1.0-01.12.0-2Layout and rendering of internatio ii libpopt0 1.7-5 lib for parsing cmdline parameters ii librsvg2-2 2.14.2-1SAX-based renderer library for SVG ii librsvg2-common 2.14.2-1SAX-based renderer library for SVG ii libselinux1 1.30-1 SELinux shared libraries ii libwrap0 7.6.dbs-9 Wietse Venema's TCP wrappers libra ii libx11-6 6.9.0.dfsg.1-5 X Window System protocol client li ii libxau6 6.9.0.dfsg.1-5 X Authentication library ii libxcursor1 1.1.3-1 X cursor management library ii libxdmcp66.9.0.dfsg.1-5 X Display Manager Control Protocol ii libxext6 6.9.0.dfsg.1-5 X Window System miscellaneous exte ii libxi6 6.9.0.dfsg.1-5 X Window System Input extension li ii libxinerama1 6.9.0.dfsg.1-5 X Window System multi-head display ii libxml2 2.6.23.dfsg.2-3 GNOME XML library ii libxrandr2 6.9.0.dfsg.1-5 X Window System Resize, Rotate and ii libxrender1 1:0.9.0.2-1 X Rendering Extension client libra ii lsb-base 3.0-16 Linux Standard Base 3.0 init scrip ii metacity [x-window-m 1:2.14.1-1 A lightweight GTK2 based Window Ma ii sawfish [x-window-ma 1:1.3+cvs20050709-6 a window manager for X11 ii twm [x-window-manage 6.9.0.dfsg.1-5 Tab window manager ii xbase-clients6.9.0.dfsg.1-5 miscellaneous X clients ii xterm [x-terminal-em 210-2 X terminal emulator ii zlib1g 1:1.2.3-11 compression library - runtime Versions of packages gdm recommends: ii dialog1.0-20060221-1 Displays user-friendly dialog boxe ii gdm-themes0.5Themes for the GNOME Display Manag ii zenity2.12.1-2 Display graphical dialog boxes fro -- debconf information: gdm/daemon_name: /usr/bin/gdm * shared/default-x-display-manager: gdm -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe". I don't have one. It seems to have fixed itself. It may have been related to my home directory being chmoded 700, or it may be related to some dot files I trashed. I'll try to investigate to see if I can narrow down the cause. -- Eric Dorland <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> ICQ: #61138586, Jabber: [EMAIL PROTECTED] 1024D/16D970C6 097C 4861 9934 27A0 8E1C 2B0A 61E9 8ECF 16D9 70C6 -BEGIN GEEK CODE BLOCK- Version: 3.12 GCS d- s++: a-- C+++ UL+++ P++ L++ E++ W++ N+ o K- w+ O?
