Bug#363482: xfonts-thai-nectec.alias is still in old directory

Bug#363482: xfonts-thai-nectec.alias is still in old directory
I think there is a conflict between debhelper and xfonts-utils here. update-fonts-alias requires package.alias to be in /etc/X11/fonts/X11R7/$dir, while dh_installxfonts still checks at the old place. That may be why the recent uploader still kept the file there (to get update-fonts-alias called, but unfortunately ineffective). I've filed Bug #363482 against debhelper for this. Meanwhile, I've proposed ITA for this orphaned package. When dh_installxfonts is fixed, it should be solved in next upload. -- Theppitak Karoonboonyanan http://linux.thai.net/~thep/

I've discussed it with the XSF, and there is provisional agreement that this is a bug (= unnecessary incompatible change that should be reverted) in xfonts-utils. The basic issue is that, while there is a reason for the paths for the actual font files to have changed, and there is a reason why update-fonts-alias would need additional arguments in order to know how to distinguish between the old and new paths, there is no reason why a separate /etc/X11/fonts/X11R7 heirarchy should be required. I intend to work up a patch for update-fonts-alias so that it can correctly and automatically determine which aliases belong to which physical directory, removing the need for sourceful fixes to each and every xfonts package. -- Steve Langasek Give me a lever long enough and a Free OS Debian Developer to set it on, and I can move the world. Bug#363482: xfonts-thai-nectec.alias is still in old directory
Reopened the bug, because, in the 2526-6 upload, the xfonts-thai-nectec.alias is *still* in the old directory, namely /etc/X11/fonts/misc, rather than /etc/X11/fonts/X11R7/misc. Note that this bug applies to other xfonts-thai-* packages as well: - xfonts-thai-nectec - xfonts-thai-etl - xfonts-thai-manop - xfonts-thai-vor However, xfonts-thai-ttf should not be affected, because AFAIK, it does not provide a fonts.alias file. -- Theppitak Karoonboonyanan http://linux.thai.net/~thep/
