I just noticed that xteddy is still using imlib11. Please
switch to libimlib2-dev if at all possible; imlib11 is in
oldlibs and will probably go away before etch+1.

imlib1 will be removed for Squeeze, so this is now release-critical.

Just to keep you informed about the status about this problem:

   1. xteddy is dead upstream and I do not see any chance that
  somebody will fix the bug.
   2. there is a program called cteddy
   http://cteddy.mangobrain.co.uk/
  (_C_omposition teddy) which works with Gtk+ = 2.1 and
might replace xteddy. I actually have some packaging stuff on
my local hard disk. Unfortunately there are some problems
with window managers which do not use composition. I try
to sort out this with the author

In short xteddy can go away at any team release team feels a need
for removal. There is some hope for a replacement of cteddy
(and I actually setted Provides/Conflicts/Replaces: xteddy for
 my local cteddy package.

imlib11 is scheduled for removal and since the eventual replacement
through cteddy isn't related, please request removal from the
archive.

Cheers,
Moritz

Do you mean *now* is there any reason to keep it in unstable for
a while? The rationale is that xteddy is not only a cute toy
but can be used in some presentation to pop up some transparent
images which is sometimes really helpful. If it only would be
a toy I would immediately do so, but keeping it in unstable
as long as there is no replacement seems to be fair. As an
exchange I'll ask for removal of libgtkimreg0 and paul which
have the same imlib problem. Is this a fair deal? ;-)

Kind regards

Andreas.

Haven't we already patched xteddy to use Imlib2?

I was also working on a patch for libgtkimreg but it may or may not be
broken (As well as not being completed)...

Thanks,

Hi,

Here is a patch I started. It does build but segfaults and I'm probably
a bit over my head. Hope this helps at least a little.

--

If it segfaults the problem is not really solved and I understood
your remark a bit over my head as a I have to give up on this.
Sorry if I missinterpreted this.

I would really welcome if you would succeed with this tasks but
even as the upstream author I would say that there are probably
other more frequently used packages which deserve an imlib1 to
imlib2 upgrade more than libgtkimreg. If there is any hope that
you will be successful I might redraw my request for removal (or
reintroduce it later again).

Many thanks for your effort to upgrade this old code!

Kind regards

Andreas.

Sorry, Peter DeWachter fixed up my patch and it should be working.
Probably needs some more testing? His patch is posted on this bug as
well.

Thanks,

I had a look at libimlib2-dev and found out that it is
not source compatible with Imlib1 and certain code change
is necessary. While this will not be very difficult I'm
lacking currently the time to do this. So any patch is
accepted but don't expect any action from me in the next
couple of weeks.

Kind regards and thanks for the hint anyway

Andreas.

I'll try it but if it will not work from scratch it will
last some time. I'm in the final process of building a
house and thus my time is very limited. Feel free to
patch and NMU if you like.

Kind regards and thanks for the hints
