This sounds a lot like problems people have had in the past with external
mouses. Moving the pointer with the internal trackpad does nothing to stop
pbbuttonsd darkening the screen and eventually sending the machine to sleep.
Typing prevents this as you would expect.
I've heard that iBooks only recently put the trackpad on USB, so I'm
thinking that might have something to do with it. I saw "autorescan" in
README.Debian so I went to enable that only to find that it was already
enabled. Not sure what else to try.
I'm happy to send ls* or logs or whatever might help. A couple are below.
