After using strace and friends, I realized that ekiga was trying to connect to libresoft.urjc.es, which for some reason was mentioned in ~/.gtk-bookmarks (was the only line there). I removed the file, and now ekiga seems to start up without problems.
This is also consistent whith the behaviour when wlan0 was down: libresoft.urjc.es is today unreachable, and there was a dns search that didn't finish, but without connection to the network, it failed immediately. So, I'd consider this fixed. Sorry for the noise. [It would be nice to know why ekiga needs to look into ~/.gtk-bookmarks and connect to the urls there, but well, this is beyond my current expertise] Saludos, Jesus. -- ----- Jesus M.
