After using strace and friends, I realized that ekiga was trying to
connect to libresoft.urjc.es, which for some reason was mentioned in
~/.gtk-bookmarks (was the only line there). I removed the file, and now
ekiga seems to start up without problems.

This is also consistent whith the behaviour when wlan0 was down:
libresoft.urjc.es is today unreachable, and there was a dns search that
didn't finish, but without connection to the network, it failed
immediately.

So, I'd consider this fixed. Sorry for the noise.

[It would be nice to know why ekiga needs to look into ~/.gtk-bookmarks
and connect to the urls there, but well, this is beyond my current
expertise]
