I'm glad to hear that. However, we do need a Debian maintainer for jaxml
-- it hasn't had one for a year and a half -- so I'd still like to hear
from Victor.

The necessary changes were Debian-specific, and have been taken care of by
Pierre [1] and me [2].

Your feeling was incorrect.

The fact that there's no new upstream release doesn't mean that the
project is dead. Being the original author, I can confirm it is not.

I'm just back from holidays and seeing a lot of debian messages
about this software. I'm currently trying to read the 1500 messages
which waited for me to be back, when this is done, if something has
to be changed to jaxml I'll do it.

well, my mail was informative, to say that while I was working on the QA
packages, I already saw the problems you reported and fixed them before
knowing the package may eventually be removed.

I couldn't care less about it beeing removed or not. so I'll let you
proceed with what you feel as adequate here.

Well, my gut feeling is that jaxml is dead upstream and not likely to
be adopted (I've never had much luck contacting Victor, cf. #305460,
#312834, #317408). I'll be glad to be proven wrong of course.

Bug#380848: Renaming jaxml to python-jaxml

2006-08-01 Thread Matej Vela
retitle 380848 Python transition (#2): misnamed package with public modules
thanks

jaxml is a bit of an anomaly: it used a single package to provide a
public module for Python 2.1, 2.2, and 2.3.  It's not a stand-alone
application, so it should really, really be called python-jaxml.

There are two reverse dependencies: zope-zshell, which is likely to be
removed (#361018), and scanerrlog, which is about to break due to a
dependency on python (<< 2.4).

Victor, as the maintainer of scanerrlog, would you like to adopt jaxml?

And QA folks: can we go ahead and remove jaxml immediately? If it's
adopted and renamed, it'll have to go through NEW anyway.

Cheers,

Matej

I just did an upload that addressed that, and the package should hit NEW
soon.
