hmm, I thought you were running KDE and it doesn't show up there.
We really need to verify that it works for KDE.

Do you have some KDE desktop installation lurking around somewhere to
test it?

This is a bug originally reported at http://launchpad.net/bugs/49885 :

1. The .desktop file doesn't appear in the menus because it gets installed in
/usr/share/applnk/Utilities/qalculate_kde.desktop (it should be going in 
/usr/share/applications )
