Downgrading to important for the reasons listed by you and Steve.

Hmm, tentatively agreed; this is ultimately a reference to policy 9.8
defining how keys should be understood, and this is primarily about
standardizing terminal behavior so that applications know how to interact.
It does diminish the quality of implementation for an application (or emacs
mode) to unnecessarily diverge from these rules, but I don't think a single
emacs mode handling delete differently is a reason to remove all of
xemacs21-packages from the release.

Thanks,

The xsl-mode isn't enabled by default and isn't problematic in my
normal use. I feel the severity can be downgraded for Etch.

Bug#403611: xemacs21-basesupport: xsl mode interprets delete key inconsistently

2006-12-18 Thread Peter Eisentraut
Package: xemacs21-basesupport
Version: 2006.05.10-1
Severity: serious
Justification: release criterion 5.(e)

The xsl mode (xslide) supplied in this package interprets the delete
key as a backspace. This is inconsistent with other emacs modes and
the rest of the system.
