As I said, the bug is almost fixed, but not completely.

The workaround seems to fix the bug, except for a detail.
After setting network.protocol-handler.warn-external-default to false,
when I click on a mailto: link, I get a Sylpheed compose window, but
also a new Sylpheed instance, if Sylpheed was already running.

This is strange and should not happen, since if I issue the following
command from a terminal, while Sylpheed is running:

  $ sylpheed --compose y...@example.tld

I get a compose window for the already running instance of Sylpheed,
as I am supposed to get.

Taking into account that:

  $ gconftool-2 --get /desktop/gnome/url-handlers/mailto/command
  sylpheed --compose %s

I really cannot understand why clicking on a mailto: link from Galeon
should result in a different outcome, with respect to the command-line
invocation!

I tested Epiphany, again, and it works as intended (no new instance
of Sylpheed).

When is this next upload planned?

Also, it seems to me that there's a couple of NMUs waiting to be
acknowledged...

thanks

Workaround:
Set network.protocol-handler.warn-external-default to false from
about:config.

Tricky to debug and such an anticlimactic result, I'm disappointed.

The fix will be in the next upload.

Update: on galeon/2.0.7-1, when I follow a mailto: link a dialog window
appears.
This dialog window is titled
"chrome://mozapps/content/handling/dialog.xul" and includes a list with
one single item named "Choose an Application" with a "Choose..." button.
At the bottom two standard "Cancel" and "OK" buttons.

Why should I choose something?
I have *already* made my choice at gconf level (which should work for
my user in all gconf-aware applications!).
I reiterate that Galeon should use gconf settings in order to
determine which mail user agent should be invoked when the user follows
a mailto: link.

Even if there is this workaround (which I haven't yet tried out),
I still think that Galeon should use gconf settings in order to
determine which mail user agent should be invoked when the user follows
a mailto: link.

I issued the following command:

  $ gconftool-2 --type=string \
--set /desktop/gnome/url-handlers/mailto/command \
'sylpheed --compose %s'

and now it seems that gconf is knows about my mail user agent of choice:

  $ gconftool-2 --get /desktop/gnome/url-handlers/mailto/command
  sylpheed --compose %s

Nonetheless, Galeon seems to ignore this setting entirely.
When I follow a mailto: link in Galeon, nothing happens.

Epiphany is happy to invoke Sylpheed, as soon as I follow a
mailto: link.
Hence, it seems that Galeon is at fault here.

It's a significant downside, IMHO: I don't want to bloat my system just
for the mailto: link feature!

2007-01-07 Thread Gabriele Stilli
Package: galeon
Version: 2.0.2-4
Followup-For: Bug #405387

For Galeon, I solved this installing gnome-control-center, running
gnome-default-applications-properties and choosing from the drop-downs
"Galeon" as the default application and "Mutt" as the mailclient.
Trying to set the relevant keys manually via gconftool-2 apparently
did not help (maybe I'm not skilled enough for that; any hint? :) ).

Don't know for other browsers, I guess it could be done similarly by
fiddling with the options.

The only downside of this is the number of dependencies brought in by
gnome-control-center (personally I don't use Gnome and it's a pity to
have to install so many otherwise useless packages just to setup that
single option). Oh, all right anyway :-)

Gabriele :-)

Bug#405387: galeon: fails to send email (really!)

2007-01-02 Thread David J. Raymond
Package: galeon
Version: 2.0.2-4
Severity: normal

Clicking on an email address in a webpage fails to bring up mutt. I
have mutt set as the default mail program in the gnome configuration
system, indicating also that it must run in a terminal window. This
lack of response occurs in epiphany-browser and firefox as well,
suggesting a Gnome-wide problem. Mutt is installed and it works.
Email works on browsers in the current stable distribution. I cleaned
out my stable distribution gnome files to see if it was a conflict
with the old configuration. The testing installation was also from
scratch, to avoid possible config file conflicts with stable on the
root level.
