Bug#407144: udftools: can't install in etch chroot

2007-08-16 Thread Steven Shiau
I confirm this bug. Although makedev is installed before udftools, but
in chroot environment, the /dev/MAKEDEV does not exist, since
ln -sf /sbin/MAKEDEV /dev/MAKEDEV
is not done by the function create_dev_makedev in /etc/init.d/udev. I
mean in chroot, the udev service is not run actually unless manually
start it.
Therefor IMHO maybe it's better to use
cd /dev; /sbin/MAKEDEV pktcdvd
instead of
cd /dev; ./MAKEDEV pktcdvd
in postinst.

My 2 cents.

OK, it seems udftools needs a dependency on makedev - or maybe I should no
longer attempt to use makedev at all, see #405821.

I had thought that no dependency is needed because makedev is Priority:
required, but actually that is only true for Priority: essential.

Cheers,

  Richard
