Here's what I found:

./ChangeLog:* zc: automatically use ruby-libxml implementation if
available

Possibly zonecheck use of ruby-libxml is buggy, or maybe a big was
recently introduced in ruby-xml; I'm not quite sure which one it is,
and since upstream development of zonecheck has stopped, it's going to
be hard to tell.

The simplest solution, that I can implement myself, would be to
disable the use of ruby-libxml altogether, even if it's installed. Do
you have any comments on this idea, or maybe other suggestions ?

Cheers,

--Seb

So... do you think the problem is in the zonecheck code, or rather
something to do with the way libxml-ruby1.8 is packaged ?

I did see the problem on "unstable", too. And I've found a solution:

apt-get remove libxml-ruby1.8

This solves the problem (thanks to Jean-Philippe Pick)

On the machines where it works, try installing libxml-ruby1.8, you
will probably see the problem appearing.

I don't have any idea right now; were you able to find any relevant
differences between those 2 etch boxes ?

Cheers,

Right, another etch box does not have the problem (both have been
'aptitude dist-upgrade' this morning. I'll study both machines in
details to see where they can be different. Any idea?

PS: debian.org fails Zonecheck because the nameserver on saens is
down.

thanks

I am not seeing that on unstable as of today; the only difference with
an etch setup is the version of iputils-ping, which is 20020927-4 in
unstable (although I'd expect the version in etch to be a simple
backport of this one).

Stephane, do you have other etch boxes where you can reproduce this
problem ? Do you also not see it on an unstable setup (if you have one
available) ?

Cheers,

This appeared in "etch" some weeks ago.

Versions of packages zonecheck depends on:
ii iputils-ping3:20020927-4 Tools to test the reachability of
ii ruby1.8.2-1 An interpreter of object-oriented

zonecheck recommends no packages.
