Hi, file-roller 2.18 is in unstable now, can you try this version and see if the bug remains? -- Cheers, Sven Arvidsson http://www.whiz.se PGP Key ID 760BDD22 signature.asc Description: This is a digitally signed message part
Bug#417877: file-roller: Seems to hang for a while... than eventually works
Package: file-roller Version: 2.14.4-2 Severity: normal I've noticed a strange behaviour : file-roller seems to hang whenever I've downloaded someithing (with iceweasel) and I've started to extract contents... There's a long while (1 minute, maybe) when nothing seems to happen, and the app seems frozen both to me and the WM, and then eventually it will restore, and prompt for the place to uncompress, and work nicely then... I'm suspecting some timeout somewhere in a spawned process of some kind trying to access "mounted" remote web folders (I have a couple distant servers mounted in Nautilus, for ftp, ssh or webdav remote directories) Maybe this is what was also reported in #409884, but can't tell for sure. Hi, Just to clarify, you launch file-roller from Iceweasel? Do you only get these delays then, not when launched from the menu? > I'm suspecting some timeout somewhere in a spawned process of some kind > trying to access "mounted" remote web folders (I have a couple distant > servers mounted in Nautilus, for ftp, ssh or webdav remote directories) Could you temporarily remove them, and any bookmarks to remote directories you have. I have seen a few cases where GNOME apps hang trying to connect to remote shares. -- Cheers, Sven Arvidsson http://www.whiz.se PGP Key ID 760BDD22 signature.asc Description: This is a digitally signed message part

If you want to, you could add a second user to your system and see if you can reproduce the problem with a fresh setup. Perhaps adding the the remote mounts one by one and see what causes this. Otherwise, file-roller 2.18 is currently available in experimental, and will probably be uploaded to unstable and then testing quite soon. Maybe you can check back and see if this is fixed in that version? -- Cheers, Sven Arvidsson http://www.whiz.se PGP Key ID 760BDD22 signature.asc Description: This is a digitally signed message part
