Bug#441282: xserver-xorg: no more possible to start kde. Xserver shuts down immediately

2007-09-08 Thread Eric Valette
Package: xserver-xorg
Version: 1:7.2-5
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

I have upgraded my pacakges yesterday, and I'm no more able to start any
windows
manager from kdm.The only things that works is the fail safe mode meaning that
the X server per se is not the culprit but looking at the Xorg log file, I do
not see any error or strange warning.

Sorry to be unable to help you more.

X doesn't work for me is almost never a grave bug.

I have upgraded my pacakges yesterday, and I'm no more able to start
any windows manager from kdm.The only things that works is the fail
safe mode meaning that the X server per se is not the culprit but
looking at the Xorg log file, I do not see any error or strange
 warning.

What makes you think this is an Xorg bug? Can you run startx? Does the
kdm log or .xsession-errors provide any clue?

Cheers,
Julien

No same symptom : X server starts and then it shut down almost properly
from the log file.

  Does the
kdm log or .xsession-errors provide any clue?

Additionnal hint : I updated this morning my desktop PC, and I do not
have the same symptom but the archtecture is different (pure EMT64, and
x driver also nv instead of ati)

Maybe you could try and fix that?

As I have already been bitten by dbus preventing X to srart, I took a
lokk at this one:

Created the missing directory, session.d, shut down kde and restart dbus
and then kde = works.

So the for sure the bug can be transferred to dbus. The question is why
is the directory missing? I do not remember having done an fsck finding
anything corrupted recently...
