Bug#447496: Trying to install sylpheed-claws-gtk2 in sid leads to unresolvable conflict

According to the policy manual ([1], para 7.5.2), your control file seems correct and should lead to claws-mail being installed instead of sylpheed-claws-gtk2. Could this be a bug with apt? Could be, otherwise I don't know why the range = 3.0.2-1 3.0.2-1.1~ doesn't resolve to the point 3.0.2-1. Anyway I think the bug is somewhat useful, because users should not install sylpheed-claws-gtk2 anymore and they get informed what they should install instead ;-) regards, -- Ricardo Mones http://people.debian.org/~mones «You are magnetic in your bearing.» signature.asc Description: PGP signature
Bug#447496: Trying to install sylpheed-claws-gtk2 in sid leads to unresolvable conflict
Hi Ricardo, thanks for looking into this so quickly! I don't know why the range = 3.0.2-1 3.0.2-1.1~ doesn't resolve to the point 3.0.2-1. I actually don't think that this is the problem. For instance, you have the same constraints for sylpheed-claws-gtk2-trayicon, yet it installs without problems: apt-get install -s sylpheed-claws-gtk2-trayicon Reading package lists... Building dependency tree... Reading state information... The following extra packages will be installed: claws-mail claws-mail-trayicon defoma file fontconfig fontconfig-config snip Suggested packages: claws-mail-doc www-browser gedit kedit mousepad nedit claws-mail-tools snip Recommended packages: claws-mail-i18n xfonts-100dpi xfonts-75dpi xfonts-100dpi-transcoded snip The following NEW packages will be installed: claws-mail claws-mail-trayicon defoma file fontconfig fontconfig-config snip 0 upgraded, 62 newly installed, 0 to remove and 0 not upgraded. Inst x11-common (1:7.2-5 Debian:unstable) Inst libxau6 (1:1.0.3-2 Debian:unstable) Inst libxdmcp6 (1:1.0.2-2 Debian:unstable) snip Inst claws-mail (3.0.0-1 Debian:unstable) Inst claws-mail-trayicon (3.0.0-1 Debian:unstable) Inst sylpheed-claws-gtk2-trayicon (3.0.0-1 Debian:unstable) Conf libxau6 (1:1.0.3-2 Debian:unstable) Conf libxdmcp6 (1:1.0.2-2 Debian:unstable) Conf libx11-data (2:1.0.3-7 Debian:unstable) snip Conf claws-mail (3.0.0-1 Debian:unstable) Conf claws-mail-trayicon (3.0.0-1 Debian:unstable) Conf sylpheed-claws-gtk2-trayicon (3.0.0-1 Debian:unstable) So, I really think that the Conflicts+Replaces is not resolved as it should.
