The upstream fix is upstream patch 1746831:

applied in SVN Rev. 16705 -- both of which should be referenced in the
README of the patch you're just adding, IMHO.

Hi Ralf,

 I correlated the nagios logs and the dpkg.log* Files and found out
 that the last good version of snmpd was 5.3.1-8 -- after that,
 5.4.1~dfsg-4 was installed and the problems began. 

this might be upstream bug 1843918. I'll upload a package with the
upstream fix.
