Using curl in scripts you normally do not want the statistics.  I'd
like a way to shut this up - -q is fairly traditional.

You can accomplish this using '-w '  but that's very non-obvious and
took a good 5-10mins hunting.  Even a reference in the manpage so that
a search for quiet doesn't show anything.

Just a minor little thing, but one that was just about to make me say
aaargghghghghg! :-)
