Right, lots of people have apparently similar symptoms but it is not
clear at all whether the cause is the same.

Lot's of noise is this upstream bug. I'm not sure it's related. The 
problem I had was more like the one described in 
http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=463382.


FYI, this problem disappear by using Option "FramebufferCompression" 
"false" in xorg.conf. Thanks for the hint in Bug#466459.


I hadn't had a single flicker for the last 4 weeks.
