Okay, I'm a little confused now. Can you make the contents of your
/etc/dbus-1/system.d/odccm.conf visible somewhere then please?

Also, you're definitely running the daemon as root? (Sorry to sound
silly, but it's worth a check!) Run `whomai` on the shell to make sure.

Hm, okay thanks. So if you try to start the daemon after the failed
installation, does it still fail? You can either try to start the
daemon with "/etc/init.d/odccm start" or "odccm" (both as root).

When I try to recreate this by simply installing the package, no problem
