 Would it be possible to have loccheck using SMTP to send email reports
 instead of local /usr/bin/sendmail.

That would break systems running dma instead of a full-fledged SMTP daemon.

Patches are welcome, but I won't implement this. You should be able
to tell your mailscanner to ignore logcheck mail.
