Bug#475112: xserver-xorg-video-intel: lockup with G33 on x86_64

2009-06-03 Thread Brice Goglin
Jerry,

Does this problem still happen with latest intel driver from unstable or
experimental?

Thanks,
Brice

I'm no longer seeing the lockups, so the recent Intel drivers must have
fixed the issue.

Can you try upgrading to experimental? There's intel 2.4.0 and Xserver
1.5-rc6 there (1.4.99.906).

Also, it would be good to know whether it is EXA related. Add
Option AccelMethod XAA
do the Device section of your xorg.conf.

I've now seen the same X death with XAA enabled in 2.2.99.902-1, so
the problem is not dependent on EXA acceleration.

Is it better with 2.3.2 or upstream git ? I am feeling like 2.3.2 fixed
some of my lockups.

I realize I was replying to a different bug with the same issue.

that may be useful to know is that I've opened and closed many many windows,
due to some bad calendar feeds that icedove doesn't like.

Can you reproduce with 2:2.2.99.902-1 from experimental?

Yes, I've now seen the same problem with 2.2.299.902-1. Here's the post
startup bit from the failed log file:

(WW) intel(0): PRB0_CTL (0x0001f001) indicates ring buffer enabled
(WW) intel(0): PRB0_HEAD (0x690120d4) and PRB0_TAIL (0x000120e0) indicate ring
buffer not flushed

(WW) intel(0): Existing errors found in hardware state.

I was working in a different app (gnucash) this time, so I don't seem to be
doing anything obvious to allow me to reproduce the lockup.

Also, it would be good to know whether it is EXA related. Add
Option AccelMethod XAA
do the Device section of your xorg.conf.

I'll try that next.

Jerry

This may be related to other lockups, but it's the first I saw on G33 and
x86_64, so I gave it a new bug. I didn't know which other bug made sense to
 attach this to.

The lockup is random but has happened a few times in the last week for me.
