It would be interesting to get a backtrace of the running epiphany process, which must be locked up somewhere, which is why it doesn’t close correctly. Given the number of Flash-related bugs I received since the switch to Gecko 1.9, I’m tempted to say it’s caused by this plugin, but only the backtrace will tell us for sure. Bug#488340: Fails to start
Package: epiphany-browser Version: 2.22.2-3 Epiphany sometimes fails to start. For example, when I run it now, it displays the following error message and exits: ** (epiphany-browser:5937): WARNING **: An error occured while calling remote method: Did not receive a reply. Possible causes include: the remote application did not send a reply, the message bus security policy blocked the reply, the reply timeout expired, or the network connection was broken. I don't know how to reproduce the problem reliably, but I'd estimate it crops up about once a week. Here's what's printed by dbus-monitor if I run it in another terminal: signal sender=org.freedesktop.DBus -> dest=(null destination) path=/org/freedesktop/DBus; interface=org.freedesktop.DBus; member=NameOwnerChanged string ":1.33" string "" string ":1.33" method call sender=:1.33 -> dest=org.freedesktop.DBus path=/org/freedesktop/DBus; interface=org.freedesktop.DBus; member=Hello method call sender=:1.33 -> dest=org.freedesktop.DBus path=/org/freedesktop/DBus; interface=org.freedesktop.DBus; member=AddMatch string "type='signal',sender='org.freedesktop.DBus',path='/org/freedesktop/DBus',interface='org.freedesktop.DBus',member='NameOwnerChanged'" method call sender=:1.33 -> dest=org.freedesktop.DBus path=/org/freedesktop/DBus; interface=org.freedesktop.DBus; member=AddMatch string "type='signal',sender='org.freedesktop.DBus',path='/org/freedesktop/DBus',interface='org.freedesktop.DBus'" method call sender=:1.33 -> dest=org.freedesktop.DBus path=/org/freedesktop/DBus; interface=org.freedesktop.DBus; member=GetNameOwner string "org.freedesktop.DBus" method call sender=:1.33 -> dest=org.freedesktop.DBus path=/org/freedesktop/DBus; interface=org.freedesktop.DBus; member=RequestName string "org.gnome.Epiphany" uint32 4 method call sender=:1.33 -> dest=org.freedesktop.DBus path=/org/freedesktop/DBus; interface=org.freedesktop.DBus; member=RemoveMatch string "type='signal',sender='org.freedesktop.DBus',path='/org/freedesktop/DBus',interface='org.freedesktop.DBus'" method call sender=:1.33 -> dest=org.freedesktop.DBus path=/org/freedesktop/DBus; interface=org.freedesktop.DBus; member=RemoveMatch string "type='signal',sender='org.freedesktop.DBus',path='/org/freedesktop/DBus',interface='org.freedesktop.DBus',member='NameOwnerChanged'" method call sender=:1.33 -> dest=org.freedesktop.DBus path=/org/freedesktop/DBus; interface=org.freedesktop.DBus; member=AddMatch string "type='signal',sender='org.freedesktop.DBus',path='/org/freedesktop/DBus',interface='org.freedesktop.DBus',member='NameOwnerChanged'" method call sender=:1.33 -> dest=org.freedesktop.DBus path=/org/freedesktop/DBus; interface=org.freedesktop.DBus; member=AddMatch string "type='signal',sender='org.gnome.Epiphany',path='/org/gnome/Epiphany',interface='org.gnome.Epiphany'" method call sender=:1.33 -> dest=org.freedesktop.DBus path=/org/freedesktop/DBus; interface=org.freedesktop.DBus; member=GetNameOwner string "org.gnome.Epiphany" method call sender=:1.33 -> dest=org.gnome.Epiphany path=/org/gnome/Epiphany; interface=org.gnome.Epiphany; member=loadURIList array [ string "" ] string "" uint32 3040095 method call sender=:1.33 -> dest=org.freedesktop.DBus path=/org/freedesktop/DBus; interface=org.freedesktop.DBus; member=RemoveMatch string "type='signal',sender='org.gnome.Epiphany',path='/org/gnome/Epiphany',interface='org.gnome.Epiphany'" method call sender=:1.33 -> dest=org.freedesktop.DBus path=/org/freedesktop/DBus; interface=org.freedesktop.DBus; member=RemoveMatch string "type='signal',sender='org.freedesktop.DBus',path='/org/freedesktop/DBus',interface='org.freedesktop.DBus',member='NameOwnerChanged'" signal sender=org.freedesktop.DBus -> dest=(null destination) path=/org/freedesktop/DBus; interface=org.freedesktop.DBus; member=NameOwnerChanged string ":1.33" string ":1.33" string "" There does appear to be a gnome-www-browser process running, but I don't see any window for it.
