  perldoc actually runs pod2man in the background, so this is very related
  to #480997. I'm looking for a way to get this fixed for Lenny, either
  with the separate podlators-perl package (currently only in sid)
  or by patching Pod::Man.

  A workaround for now is the perldoc '-t' option.

 It's looking like we're going to have a separate podlators-perl package
 for Lenny, so we need to detect if pod2man actually supports '--utf8̈́'.

 I'm considering the attached patch, which I just sent upstream for
 comments as [rt.cpan.org #39000].

Hi Dmitry,

the patch was included in 5.10.0-14, but I decided to revert it in
5.10.0-16 because 'pod2man --utf8' is too experimental to get run by
default in Lenny. I'm hoping Pod::Perldoc acquires an interface for
turning '--utf8' on optionally in the future.

A workaround for now is to do something like

% pod2man --utf8 ru.pod | env LANG=ru_RU man -l -

Reopening this bug.

Make /usr/bin/perldoc invoke pod2man with the --utf8 option if it detects a new enough Pod::Man version. (Closes: #492037)

This file is showed incorrectly:

Perldoc from Etch works fine.

pod2text works tolerably, but letters 'Э' (1069 == ord 'Э'),
'И' (1048 == ord 'И') will be replaced to symbol 'Ð'

pod2man works as perldoc

pod2html works fine
