Bug#493540: linux-image-2.6.25-2-686-bigmem: fails to copy files/directories on USB storage media

2009-07-29 Thread Stefan Oschkera
I've looked through the upstream commits, but couldn't find something
which directly relates to your problem. As a first data point, could
you test 2.6.30 from unstable? Even if you run stable, it installs fine
 in Lenny.

The problem indeed seems to be resolved; I did not observe any of the above
stated issues for quite a time. Hence, please close this bug report.

Sorry for providing no further feedback, but having received no comment for
quite a time, I have assumed that this bug report has allready been dropped.

Cheers,
Stefan

The tested USB devices were two memory sticks - 1GB and 8GB - and an USB HDD
with a capacity of 120GB. The files transferred were all smaller than 500MB
each, the test directory showed only a few subdirectories - so everything
should have been well within the specs of FAT32.

Hi gents,

Probably the issue is not caused by the USB driver but the FAT32 subsystem; I
just found similar kernel bug reports issued for Ubuntu and SUSE: [1], [2]

Kind regards,
Stefan

2008-09-27 Thread Stefan Oschkera
Good morning gents,

As the problem still persists with the latest linux-image-2.6.26-1-686-bigmem
Kernel currently shipped with Lenny (just made an update/upgrade), do you want
me to reissue this bug report for the actual kernel version?

Kind regards,
Stefan

Most probably this bug report is similar to #485692 but this one refers to
 the linux-image-2.6.25-2-686-bigmem-package:

Test if this is also the case with 2.6.26 which was uploaded to
unstable. This is the version that will probably be released in lenny.

Thanks

2008-08-03 Thread Stefan Oschkera
Hi Teodor,

As suggested, I've installed the 2.6.26 kernel using the
linux-image-2.6.26-1-686-bigmem_2.6.26-1_i386.deb package from unstable,
unfortunately with identical results.

For testing purposes I even switched the video-driver from nvidia to nv to
avoid any potential conflicts. Same results. I'm afraid even the latest 2.6.26
kernel does not resolve the problem.

Regards,
Stefan
