IMHO, that makes 2.8.6 unsuitable for a Debian stable release.

Diff with 2.8.6b looks sane.

Upstream have asked that 2.8.6 not be redistributed.

IMHO, that makes 2.8.6 unsuitable for a Debian stable release.

 6 is a bad idea?

Agreed. From all accounts 2.8.6 is running well across debian.

The only reason to upgrade lenny to 2.8.6.b is because upstream have asked
generally that 2.8.6 not be distributed as they released some early code that
they then took out in 2.8.6.b.

Functionally the two versions are supposed to be identical.

Upstream has put additional functionality into 2.8.7. But we are not
considering that for lenny and I probably won't package 2.8.7 until we resolve
lenny. Ubuntu have allready shipped 2.8.7 and we work with them on common
packaging, we both use alioth for debian/

2008-08-11 Thread absurd

Hi,

I just noted on the hp page

http://hplip.sourceforge.net/release_notes.html

that release 2.8.6 was accidential, quote:

HPLIP 2.8.6 prematurely released code that was not intended for

no change in intended functionality as described in the release notes.
We do not recommend using release 2.8.6 and ask that release 2.8.6 not

There is no hint in the changelog that you actually use 2.8.6b, so I think
it is important (for lenny) to replace upstream by 2.8.6b or 2.8.7.

Thanks,

Stephan
