Package: kvm Version: 72+dfsg-1 Severity: normal Hi
I'm not entirely sure if this is a bug or not, but I've been unable to find any other information about it and therefore I thought it would be better to report it. The problem revolves around the screen update rate on KVM. It appears extremely slow in comparison to QEMU, even without any acceleration module. This seems a bit odd as KVM is based on QEMU to a significant degree anyway. Given the additional performance advantages provided by the use of hardware virtualisation and KVM, I can only imagine that a bug or some missing implementation code is having this effect. The problem can be easily demonstrated. Downloading the small base FreeDOS image and booting from the CD displays an initial splash screen. The rendering of it is vastly quicker on QEMU and is sluggish on KVM. The problem seems to persist for other programs too.
