Bug#498590: menu: documentation tailored to generate files in /etc
I've looked at the documentation for things to suggest putting generated files to /etc instead of /var (which several WMs do) and found the following issues: The description for examplercfile contains /etc/. Looking at it, it actually looks like menu could need some improvement here. Generating the files in the proper place seem to not only need multiple symlinks (on in the final place of the configuration file to the generated file and one back from the "example" file (which looks like it would then be the final place for the user make modifications to the window manager config, so a bit misnamed), but also end up with no configuration at all when menu is not installed. The postinst/postrm examples use /etc. Some example how to migrate a old menu file from /etc to /var here would be nice. Plus the current code also has the bug of generating errors when purging the package when menu was never installed (Though I guess the subshell due to () might cause it not to fail the whole script, though I do not know how different shells handle that...
