Bug#500732: CUPS overrides settings when printing from Windows

2010-01-26 Thread Mesterházy Attila
Hello,

thank you Henry Jensen for your suggestion.
I have renamed /usr/lib/cups/filters/pstops to pstops.lenny and copied the
pstops from an etch machine to the updated lenny server
as pstops.etch. Then made a symbolic link for pstops.etch -> pstops
Now everything works fine, and the users can select if they want to
use duplex or not, toner saving or not.

Bug#500732: CUPS overrides settings when printing from Windows

2009-07-17 Thread Henry Jensen
Hello,

i ran into this problem today, when I upgraded our print server from etch to
lenny. We use it to print from windows clients.

After the upgrade we couldn't use duplex printing or selecting a specified
printer tray, the printer took paper only from the
default tray, no matter what was selected.

After some reading the pstops filter was identified as the part that gave us
this trouble. I copied /usr/lib/cups/pstops from
an Etch installation to /usr/lib/cups/pstopsold at our printserver. Further I
modified /etc/cups/mime.convs:

#application/postscript application/vnd.cups-postscript 66 pstops
application/postscript application/vnd.cups-postscript 66 pstopsold

After that, everything worked as expected.

Now, it seems that is a bug in the pstops filter. Is upstream informed? Or is
this a Debian specific bug?

Bug#500732: CUPS overrides settings when printing from Windows

2009-07-24 Thread Heide, Michael
Package: cups
Version: 1.3.10-2
Followup-For: Bug #500732

Hi, I hope it is ok to answer via email and not via reportbug.
The corresponding machine neither has email nor internet access.

I think somehow I have the same problem, but I'm not shure.
While local printing works like a charm, network printing from windows
(via samba) works only partly. Printing itself is fine, but the duplex mode
is ignored. (duplex in Linux is fine)

If I enable duplex in cups, all windows prints get duplexed, regardless of
the settings in the Windows printing dialogue.

Maybe mine is a different problem because none of the workarounds here
work for me.
1. /etc/cups/mime.convs gets totally ignored.
I can put garbage in it and nothing changes.
2. adding "cups options = raw" to smb.conf -> ditto
3. pstops didn't get called. If I interpret correctly my "loglevel debug" log,
the following filterlist gets called, regardless of any mime.convs entries:
   pstopdf->pdftopdf->foomatic-rip->backend.

$ grep -i -e duplex cups-logleveldebug/error_log
D [24/Jul/2009:12:30:51 +0200] [Job 372440] Added option Duplex
D [24/Jul/2009:12:30:52 +0200] [Job 372440] Starting renderer with command: gs

-sIjsServer=hpijs -dDEVICEWIDTHPOINTS=595 -dDEVICEHEIGHTPOINTS=842
-sDeviceManufacturer="HEWLETT-PACKARD" -sDeviceModel="hp color LaserJet"

 -dIjsUseOutputFD -sOutputFile=- /var/spool/cups/tmp/foomatic-GFfkED

I wonder: "-dDuplex=false" ?

I've installed an ubuntu 9.04 machine and configured only this one printer.
Didn't work either. Even installing the latest hplip manually to some
Debian 4.0 machine results in the same Problem. Printing duplex from cups
is fine. Windows via samba->cups is broken.

I cannot attach files here to the list, right?
If someone is interested, I have a full log from samba+cups(debug) available.
