Bug#520225: libsane and Brother MFC-215C

2009-03-24 Thread isahib
Hi,

Sorry I did not your receive your email response for some reason.
Today I figured I'd check the status of this.

1. The backend is external which I downloaded and installed from
Brothers website.
http://www.sane-project.org/lists/sane-backends-external.html#S-BROTHER

This makes it clear to me since the site goes on to say...
As this software contains non-free parts, it can't be included into
SANE...

2. Yes I optionally wipe out the file.

Thanks
Ibaidul

Then the rule for your scanner does not belong to the rules file
shipped by libsane.

You'll have to take care of it on your own, since libsane (and other
packages providing backends) only cares about the hardware it
supports.

Bug#520225: libsane and Brother MFC-215C

2009-03-18 Thread isahib
Package: libsane
Version: 1.0.19-26
Severity: important
Tags: patch

The multi-function Brother MFC-215C works well with Debian
Etch/Lenny/Squeeze.

However I manually have to add the following line to z60_libsane.rules
to get the scanner working:

#Brother MFC215C
SYSFS{idVendor}==04f9,SYSFS{idProduct}==0193,MODE=666,GROUP=scanner

I have tried to email this to the Sane mailing list but no luck.

Everytime z60_libsane.rules gets updated it wipes out my settings (after
confirming though).

Can you please add my scanner to the rules file.

Which backend do you use with this scanner?

Everytime z60_libsane.rules gets updated it wipes out my settings (after
 confirming though).

Let's rephrase that: every time there's a change to the udev rules
file /you/ wipe out your modifications.

Can you please add my scanner to the rules file.

If it's supported by a backend included in libsane, sure. If not, it
doesn't belong to the rules shipped with libsane.
