Subject: =debianutils-2.29 - installkernel breaks non-grub systems and
fills /boot partition with copies

Several Gentoo users complained[1] about the changes to installkernel
that got incorporated into debianutils =2.29 [2].

Generally, not all Debian supported architectures (can) use grub (or
can be considered modern), and on many of those systems, the way the
new installkernel works not only breaks without good reasons the
file naming conventions that have worked well for a long time, but makes
management of kernel images and their associated System.map and config
files impractical.

Please revert or otherwise fix installkernel, perhaps using the patch
proposed in comment #10 [3].

Kind regards,
 jer

Can you confirm that the effective change against debianutils is just to
move the

 ln -sf $1-$ver $dir/$1

line outside the else block?
