If alevt in dvb-apps is not being worked on either (they even moved it to "legacy"), then the cookie that I bit into is a little bit bigger than I first thought. In light of dvb-apps being dead upstream it isn't really right to replace alevt with dvb-apps. I'm leaning more towards setting up a proper upstream project for alevt and keeping the alevt package separate from dvb-apps. I have had some fascination with teletext even since I was a little child, so I think it'll be fun. > I've moved linuxtv-dvb-apps to Salsa last year: > > https://salsa.debian.org/vdr-team/linuxtv-dvb-apps > > ...but unfortunately couldn't find the time to work on this package. > Currently I'm busy getting the VDR packages up-to-date, so any help > would be welcome! But why did upstream move it to the legacy section of the website? Doing something like that makes it look like there are replacements for all the included tools (at least apart from alevt). Do you think the package still is relevant for Debian? Regards, -- Göran Weinholt Debian Developer https://weinholt.se/

Hello Göran! dvb-apps doesn't seem to be actively been worked on by upstream as well. The last upstream commit was about 5 years ago. But it's still younger than the original alevt. So I guess alevt can indeed be "merged" into dvb-apps. dvb-apps can need a little help as well. There have only been NMU's since 2013. I've moved linuxtv-dvb-apps to Salsa last year: https://salsa.debian.org/vdr-team/linuxtv-dvb-apps ...but unfortunately couldn't find the time to work on this package. Currently I'm busy getting the VDR packages up-to-date, so any help would be welcome! The first things needed to be done would be to add the NMU changes, update the VCS links, update to rev1505 and check if some of the bugs can be fixed. BR, Tobias
Bug#532093: AleVT in dvb-apps
Hello VDR Team, I've been eyeing the orphaned alevt package for a while and decided to adopt it. However, some quick investigation showed that it has been abandoned upstream, forked and is now part of dvb-apps. I've tested alevt in dvb-apps and it works. >From what I can tell, there is no point in keeping the alevt package. I would suggest removing it. What do you think?
