Dear Ritesh, After copying the example scripts, I could build custom kernels and initrd images were created automatically, including using fakeroot. So I don't understand why these scripts are not used by default. Kind regards, JM -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of "unsubscribe". Trouble? I don't really use the Live Images so am not sure what kernel they use and how they generate the initrd image. But, going by what you've mentioned, if you feel that this bug has affects elsewhere (like breaking Debian Live), please feel free to re-open this bug and increase the severity. But the challenge is is that they'll need a fix. I myself don't know the whole story, so don't know what the appropriate fix would be. Manoj pointed to those example scripts, so probably his pointing means that the current behavior would remain as the default behavior. BTW, does copying the example scripts solve the problem ? Dear Friends, It could be that Debian live are broken. I generated USB key with Debian live systems and they stop on boot with initramfs message. Dear Friends, We spent several hours trying to compile a fresh 2.6.30 kernel. Debian stock kernels only provide the new firewire interface. So we compiled a kernel with the old stack. It took us several hours to understand why kernel initrd was missing. At first I thought it was a question of static configuration of modules. I did not look for a missing initrd, because the build scrit included --initrd as usual. This has been the case for so many years. I don't believe my eyes this could change. Please revert. I wonder how your guys can think this is a "fixed" bug or a question of documentation. I hope you are kidding. Finally, I copied as proposed the following scripts: cp /usr/share/kernel-package/examples/etc/kernel/postinst.d/initramfs /etc/kernel/postinst.d/initramfs-tools ; cp /usr/share/kernel-package/examples/etc/kernel/postrm.d/initramfs /etc/kernel/postrm.d/initramfs-tools For Debian sake, please include these two files into initramfs-tools. You will save the time of hundreds of people. If you respect users, please do.
