Forgot to mention it earlier, but here is the error message I get when
I try to play a .mov file:

An error occurred
A text/html decoder plugin is required to play this stream, but not installed.

I tested a file from apple.com/trailers, so yes, it's a mov file.
But your question left me wondering, and it's also true that I wasn't
able to play mov files on my Lenny box either. Maybe something has
recently changed in the Quicktime video format actually, don't know
exactly...

Maybe your browser just downloaded HTML code instead.

What is the output of file foo.mov and of ffmpeg -i foo.mov ?
