Bug#546741: Driver for SiS 771/671
Richard Braakman, you should talk to Paulo Zanoni (pzanoni [at] mandriva dot com). Thank you very much! -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of "unsubscribe". Trouble? Contact listmas...@lists.debian.org
Bug#546741: Driver for SiS 771/671
I would like to do this work. I recently gained possession of a laptop with SiS 771/671 graphics so I can do my own testing. My plan is to take the version in Mandriva and rework it into a series of patches that can be applied to the master branch of xf86-video-sis on freedesktop. Then we can judge each patch on its merits. I've already examined the code. The diff is huge, but most of it is due to some structural changes (a big function was split up, and some code was moved to other files), so I think the rest is manageable after those changes have been split off as separate patches. Who should I talk to about this? Richard Braakman -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of "unsubscribe". Trouble? Contact listmas...@lists.debian.org

Exactly what I'm talking about with Paulo right now. Apparently that was a big (bad) patch. KiBi. signature.asc Description: Digital signature

I'd suggest the maintainer for it also step in and join the XSF as I did for Openchrome ;) OK, it was simpler as upstream exist and is responding. Don't be afraid Cyril wont eat you !! :D Also I guess the mandriva guy will be happy with the driver on fd.o as it means less work for him ;) My two cents. -- Julien Viard de Galbert http://silicone.homelinux.org/ GPG Key ID: D00E52B6 Published on: hkp://keys.gnupg.net Key Fingerprint: E312 A31D BEC3 74CC C49E 6D69 8B30 6538 D00E 52B6 signature.asc Description: Digital signature

Again, not if it's not maintained on freedesktop.org; I'm not interested in maintaining stuff coming from elsewhere, since people can vanish and forget about those drivers more easily. > Please, take a look at these links: > http://hellbunker.blogspot.com/2011/01/sis-m671-64bit-driver.html $ file sis-m672-64bit/sisimedia_drv.so sis-m672-64bit/sisimedia_drv.so: ELF 64-bit LSB shared object, x86-64, version 1 (SYSV), dynamically linked, stripped OK, that's a binary, and? Willian isn't talking about xserver-xorg-video-sis driver. He is talking about the Mandriva one. Maybe you could package it for us. It's updated and it's still maintained. We always need to do manual configuration after a Debian installation. Please, take a look at these links: http://hellbunker.blogspot.com/2011/01/sis-m671-64bit-driver.html http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=958967 (A looong discussion about it) http://www.ubuntugeek.com/how-to-install-sis-771671-mirage-3-video-drivers-in-ubuntu-10-04-lucid.html A quick Google Search will clarify what we mean. It would be pretty useful for us. Thank you very much.

As for patches from xf86-video-sis, I think we're tracking master quite closely, and squeeze has the last released version? KiBi. signature.asc Description: Digital signature

I have the same issue here. Paulo Zanoni from Mandriva (pzanoni [at] mandriva dot com) is the maintainer of this driver. He applies patches from http://cgit.freedesktop.org/xorg/driver/xf86-video-sis/ to http://svn.mandriva.com/cgi-bin/viewvc.cgi/packages/cooker/x11-driver-video-sisimedia/current/ . I agree with Jonatas. An alternative package would be great! There are many people suffering with this driver. These are not supported by the X.org 'sis' driver. This code is very different, so the two cannot be easily merged.” > There is a way of including this driver in Debian? For the record: http://www.linuxconsulting.ro/xorg-drivers/ looks like “upstream”; I'm not sure why that wasn't pushed towards cgit.fdo; I also don't see any git repository there. And that means patches against the kernel as well (which I didn't check if they got merged in the meanwhile). Doesn't sound too good at first glance. There is a driver in Mandriva that works for this card: http://mandriva.c3sl.ufpr.br/devel/2010.1/SRPMS/main/release/x11-driver-video-sisimedia-0.9.1-1.20091203.4mdv2010.1.src.rpm There is a way of including this driver in Debian? -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of "unsubscribe".
