Bug#551304: Openoffice writer 3.0 doesn't save correctly in Word 97/2000/XP (.doc) format
clone 551304 -1 reassign -1 openoffice.org-kde retitle -1 551304 chooses wrong filter when using KDE file picker (Word 6.0 vs. Word 97/2000/XP) tag -1 + pending retitle 551304 file saved as Word 6.0 heavily corrupted thanks Hi, On Sat, Oct 17, 2009 at 02:14:54AM +, Hans Linkels wrote: I encountered 3 different bugs here, all complying to the same error description. As I already said that is not the case... Now he have the problem on how to get out of the mess this bug caused... Let's try. When I open a Word (.doc) document which is produced on a machine running XP with office 2003. OpenOffice offers to save it default as ODF format (.odt). When I choose explicitely for 97/2000/XP format the error occurs.. 1. When the format Word 97/2000/XP (.doc) is chosen, I receive the message some formats cannot be saved in Word 6.0 format. Either this is the wrong error message, or the wrong output filter. The latter as it turned out. See e.g. https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/openoffice.org/+bug/452518 I'll add the patch for the next upload. 2. The file suffix .doc is not added altough the box automatic file name extension is checked. No suffix at all is appended. Already found out to be an other bug already reported and thus will be ignored here. 3. When the file is saved in this format (whatever the real format is, but selected as 97/2000/XP) the file is heavily corrupted when opened again in Word 2003. Artefacts occur like: - Tables have disappeared and are shown as the original contents interspersed with unreadable characters - Some pieces of the text don't show up - Some pieces of the text show up repeatedly. This is no Office 2003 fault, when I re-open the just saved .doc on OOw the same thing happens. This seems like a general Word 6.0 filter FAIL... Splitting the bug, handling 1. in a own bug. Hi, On Sat, Oct 17, 2009 at 02:14:54AM +, Hans Linkels wrote: I encountered 3 different bugs here, all complying to the same error description. Wrong. Please follow bug report principles. Means: One bug in one report, look whether bugs already are reported. If it's the former, it sounds minor to me, not important. The latter one is normal or important, yes. 2. The file suffix .doc is not added altough the box automatic file name extension is checked. No suffix at all is appended. This looks like #550758 if you use KDE4 and the KDE4 file picker.
