Bug#558693: eclipse: does not start at all

retitle 558693 eclipse: Too many files open - possible workaround

Hi

I came across a blog [1] that offered a different solution that I am
considering to adopt for the eclipse package. I would like to get some
feedback on this solution.

I believe the file the blog refers to is:
/usr/lib/eclipse/configuration/config.ini
on a Debian system.

Hi

I know some people have experienced this e.g. by having translation
packages for eclipse installed (there is a bug about this on the Ubuntu
side requesting that the default limit is increased).

You can work around this by changing the limit of open files. (e.g. In
the same terminal: run ulimit -n 2048 as root; switch to own user and
start eclipse)

Out of curiosity; what is you current file limit (output of ulimit -n)?
