Bug#565327: epiphany-browser: always asks to unlock keyring on startup

2010-02-28 Thread Apelete Seketeli
Hi,

Do you have the same problem with the latest version of
epiphany-browser ? I'm unable to reproduce the bug on my side, and I'm
using 2.29.91 here.

hi, thanks for triaging this issue. yes, i still encounter the problem.
i did a litte more checking and determined that the issue only
manifests itself under non-gnome desktops. e.g. when i use xfce i
see the problem, but when i use gnome, there is no problem.

Thanks for the details.

I need to know if this is a packaging related issue or a bug in Epiphany
source code actually.
Can you try it in another distro (eg. Ubuntu or whatever Debian based)
and tell me what happen ?

Try also to install libpam-gnome-keyring and see if it helps. This
module is responsible for unlocking the gnome keyring actually.

Sounds like a problem with XFCE then? Try another app which also uses
the keyring, such as seahorse or vinagre.

Epiphany does use the keyring for storing all your passwords, so asking
for it to be unlocked isn't unnecessary.

i just installed both seahorse and vinagre on xfce. neither pops up
the keyring dialog on startup.

its unnecessary if i do not wish to use that feature. i think it makes
complete sense if i as the user actually want to start using the
keyring, but until i say that i want to do that, i shouldn't see
anything about that.

thanks for looking into this.

i already had this installed previously since it is a recommends of
gnome-keyring. so that can't be the problem.

that seems like a bit much to ask. i'm a debian user, not an ubuntu or
whatever user. i think it would make more sense for those interested
in solving these bugs to try to reproduce the problem by logging into
an xfce session, which is hopefully not too much to ask.

like i said in the original report, i never saw this dialog until the
epiphany upload (2.29.5-1) that added the dependency on
libgnome-keyring-dev. so depending on which version of epiphany that
ubuntu is currently synced with, i may or may not see the problem; and
i don't think that would even lead to any useful conclusions.

Bug#565327: epiphany-browser: always asks to unlock keyring on startup

2010-01-14 Thread Michael Gilbert
package: epiphany-browser
severity: important
version: 2.29.5-1

as of the latest upload, which introduced a build dependency on
libgnome-keyring-dev, epiphany now pops up the keyring unlock dialog on
every start up. this is of course unnecessary and can be somewhat
disconcerting (my first thought was that something malicious had gotten
on my system and was looking for elevated privileges). thanks.
