OK, thanks.

Could you also provide
LANG=C update-alternatives --display orbd

(as it seems to be some conflict with orbd)

Here it is:

pinky:~# LANG=C update-alternatives --display orbd
orbd - auto mode
  link currently points to /usr/lib/jvm/java-6-openjdk/jre/bin/orbd
/usr/bin/rhino - priority 100
  slave js.1.gz: /usr/share/man/man1/rhino.1.gz
/usr/lib/jvm/java-6-openjdk/jre/bin/orbd - priority 1061
  slave orbd.1.gz: /usr/lib/jvm/java-6-openjdk/jre/man/man1/orbd.1.gz
/usr/lib/jvm/java-6-sun/jre/bin/orbd - priority 63
  slave orbd.1.gz: /usr/lib/jvm/java-6-sun/jre/man/man1/orbd.1.gz
Current `best' version is /usr/lib/jvm/java-6-openjdk/jre/bin/orbd.
pinky:~#

I've tried to reproduce this particular (ie. having /usr/bin/rhino as an
alternative option for orbd) configuration on two different squeeze
system without success.

Can you provide me (by private mail) your /var/log/dpkg.log to
understand which package get upgraded to which version during your
aptitude dist-upgrade run.

As of now, I will tag this issue as unreproducible but feel free to
override this.

Thanks,
