I really don't know perl, but the perlindex config file (the default) includes /usr/lib/perl5.10.1 and /usr/lib/perl5 both of which include a load of .so, .png and .gif files amongst others. Could these be the problem? And shouldn't the program be able to ignore files it can't handle anyway? The module actualy reading the files is Pod::Text. Before reassigning to 'perl', I prefer to be sure that the bug is indeed there. Can you reproduce the hang and see which file was processed at that time?
