Bug#593969: Can e-uae go into main?
close 593969 close It seems to me that e-uae can be in main and not in contrib. At least, I couldn't spot any dependencies on contrib or non-free packages, though I might be wrong. As Stephan already pointed out, e-uae depends on non-free kickstart images and has therefore to stay in contrib as per Debian Policy. However, e-uae will be removed soon from Debian anyway as it has been abandoned upstream and will be superseded in Debian by fs-uae. fs-uae ships with a free kickstart ROM developed by the AROS developers and therefore does no longer depend on non-free components and can therefore go into main. Of course, fs-uae still works with the original kickstart images. There is an ITP for fs-uae [1] and the package is in NEW [2] waiting to be accepted. Thus, closing this bug. Descriptions says: NOTE: For proper use of UAE, you need some version of the Kickstart ROM, and some OS running on top of this (most likely some version of the Amiga OS). Both don't comply to the DFSG (to say the least) and must be obtained from other sources. There is information in the package docs how to obtain these if you are owner of an Amiga box. . However, there is a minimal free build-in Kickstart replacement, and at least some demo disks are reported to run with it. Afair, there was a discussion about this years ago with the consensus it should go to contrib. I guess policy (2.2.2) has not changed since then; other packages (like atari800) also still seem to be in contrib for this reason.
