Bug#603459: debian-installer: Squeeze installer hanged at partitioning step when the language is selected as Turkish

2010-11-14 Thread emrah eryilmaz
Package: debian-installer
Severity: important

Squeeze Installer hanged at partitioning step when the language is
selected as Turkish. This is the daily build version of Netinstall at
12 Nov 2010, but there is the same problem with the earlier versions.

There is no problem, if language is selected as English.

To reproduce the bug:

- Boot from CD
- Install
- Select a language: Turkish
- Konum secimi (Select a location): Turkiye
- Bir klavye duzeni sec (Select a keyboard layout): Turkce (Q duzeni)
- Defaults until partition disks step

There is no problem if one of the guided defaults is choosen and if no
change is made.

When selecting the manual mode or trying to change a default value
of a partition in the guided mode (for example, changing ext3 to ext4
as the fs), the installer is hanged.

Outputs:
* Process bar is hanged at %54

* at terminal output screen:
(process:255) INFO: kbd-mode: setting console mode to Unicode (UTF-8)

* at terminal screen after ps command (the last few lines):
  5730 root 1872 S/bin/sh /sbin/debian-installer
  5740 root 6124 S/usr/bin/bterm -f /lib/unifont.bgf -l C.UTF-8 /lib/d
  5741 root 15188 Sdebconf -o d-i /usr/bin/main-menu
  5747 root 1744 S/usr/bin/main-menu
  5783 root 1712 Sudpkg --configure --force-configure partman-base
  5784 root 1868 S/bin/sh /var/lib/dpkg/info/partman-base.postinst con
  5785 root 1872 S/bin/sh /bin/partman
  5873 root 1872 S/bin/sh -e /lib/partman/init.d/35dump
  5876 root 1872 Rps

* after trying to delete a partition in manual mode, the terminal output:
  init: process 'sbin/reopen-console /sbin/debian-install' (pid 249)
exited. Scheduling for restart
  init: starting pid 5922, tty '': '/sbin/reopen-console /sbin/debian-installer'
  debconf: Setting debconf/language to tr
main-menu[5939]: INFO: Menu item 'partman-base' selected

I've just tried it without problems, using today's

http://cdimage.debian.org/cdimage/daily-builds/daily/arch-latest/i386/iso-cd/debian-testing-i386-netinst.iso

(that is, 14th nov). Just to rule that out, how much memory do you
have?

I can reproduce this problem with beta1 netinst image.

And it seems to only happen with the Turkish localization.

Steps to reproduce:
- choose Turkish
- acept warning about incomplete translation (Evet)
- choose Türkyie
- choose French keymap (Francizca)
- configure network
- set root and user password
- Choose guided partitioning (default choice)
- Choose al in one partition (Tüm dosyalar...)

You get the partitions layout screen.

Go up to the partition with /
Hit enter
Try to change file system to ext4
Somethign apparently fails on you're back at the beginning of partman

I can reproduce this bug with different machines. The current one has 1 GB ram

Ok, confirmed with that scenario, and it happens with the netboot image
too, so should be not so hard to debug. I can't reproduce it with a
self-made image made today, however. The interesting bit with the 14th
nov image is probably

kernel: [322.169251] debconf[268]: segfault at d ip b766c3be sp bf997a30 error
4 in libc.so.6 (deleted)[b762e000+c2000]
which seems to be inside

0003dc70 W malloc_usable_size
0003ecb0 T __libc_mallopt

which could be due to some buffer overrun?
