Bug#611905: Install sympa version 6.1.4 on Lenny

2011-02-03 Thread Michel Verdier

We have installed Sympa 6.1.4 on a Lenny, upgrading from 5.3.4. Here are the
files used to build package.
There were still some bugs we fixed manually (such as wwsympa_url missing in
sympa.conf).

Bug#611905: Install sympa version 6.1.4 on Lenny

Hi!

I built the .deb using your debian package files on Lenny amd64.

- I first had a problem with architecture in debian/control

Architecture: i386

I changed it to amd64.

- the debian/changelog is missing. I have to add it.

After that, the package well compiled.

But during installation (upgrade from 5.3.4), I got this and the install
stop on:

dbconfig-common: writing config to /etc/dbconfig-common/sympa.conf
*** WARNING: ucf was run from a maintainer script that uses debconf, but
the script did not pass --debconf-ok to ucf. The maintainer
script should be fixed to not stop debconf before calling ucf,
and pass it this parameter. For now, ucf will revert to using
 old-style, non-debconf prompting. Ugh!

Please inform the package maintainer about this problem.

Creating config file /etc/dbconfig-common/sympa.conf with new version
Unknown database type .
dpkg : erreur de traitement de sympa (--configure) :
le sous-processus post-installation script a retourné une erreur de
sortie d'état 1
Des erreurs ont été rencontrées pendant l'exécution :
 sympa
E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (1)

I also tried remove sympa 5.3.4 first before installing the sympa .deb.

This time, I got:

Paramétrage de sympa (6.1.4-1) ...
/var/lib/dpkg/info/sympa.postinst: line 55:
/usr/lib/sympa/bin/sympa_wizard.pl: Aucun fichier ou répertoire de ce type
dpkg : erreur de traitement de sympa (--configure) :
le sous-processus post-installation script a retourné une erreur de
sortie d'état 1
Des erreurs ont été rencontrées pendant l'exécution :
 sympa
E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (1)

I stopped here. Many files are missing from /usr/lib/sympa and
/usr/share/lib.

If you have a new version of the debian files or a ready .deb to try, I'm
ready to try again and help. The Squeeze 6.0.1 version is full of bug and
not really useable.

Stephane

Actually we can't upload it to experimental because we need
libunicode-linebreak-perl to be packaged and it has not be done yet.
(wwsympa needs it to run).

I will contact the perl team to ask them if they agree to take care of
that package. If not, I will package it.

FYI: I've sympa 6.1.4 running on squeeze perfectly (I've quickly built
my own libunicode-linebreak-perl package). The same apply for lenny but I
had to install some dependencies from lenny-backports and squeeze.

I plan to upload sympa to squeeze-backports once sympa 6.1.4 will hit
testing.

Regards,

This sounds like you did not install an official Debian package using
APT but did some local hacking. If so, why?

I tried to build the 6.1.4 version.

I downloaded the 6.1.4 sources from sympa web site. Inserted the debian
directory uploaded by Michel on the first post of this bug report and
launched dpkg-buildpackage.

Ahh - I see now the original bugreport.

Lenny is oldstable. There will be no official Debian packaging of any
newer Sympa release included with Lenny.

Great that you guys work on making it work anyway unofficially, but
please do not file bugreports about it - even wishlist ones. Either
work on yur own or - highly preferred - join us in developing the
official packaging.

We can always use more helping hands here in the team :-D

We can then backport the existing official packaging for those older
releases that you use. Should be little added effort.

Squeeze as well. Lenny is the bad boy. ;-)

Have you tried to build 6.1.4 in experimental ?
