Bug#619129: black screen when start kdm after upgrading to a 260.19.44-1
This is the final request for more information on this bug report. The following new driver versions are available: * 275.09.07-5 (release) in testing * 275.21-1 (release) in unstable * 280.11-1 (beta) in experimental. Please test them. I assume this bug is a duplicate of the ld.gold problem which has been fixed some time ago (i.e. in all the above versions). If I don't receive any new information I'll close this bug after a month assuming the problem was fixed inbetween. What about 270.41.06-1 which is availble in unstable? In case you have binutils-gold installed, remove this package and rebuild the kernel module, e.g. by upgrading or reinstalling nvidia-kernel-dkms after binutils-gold was removed. I am changed the driver with the vesa driver and it runs. Does the problem occur in the [kgx]dm login screen or when the user session is started? If it happens when starting the user session, create a new user so that all user configuration is reinitialized. How does xorg.conf look like? Please try a minimal one as described in README.Debian in the nvidia-glx package. If all this does not help, try downgrading Xorg to the version in squeeze (xserver-xorg-core 1.7 etc.) The newer NVIDIA drivers do work there.
