the volatile archive is gone and has been replaced by stable-updates, so
according to you taxbird should be updated in stable :) Actually, I agree.

:)

I guess I wouldn't mind updates merely dropping new .xsd/.xsl and .scm into the
appropriate paths. Indeed taxbird isn't very useful to have in a stable
release in its current form unless it's updated once or twice per year.
Fortunately libgeier doesn't seem to have any rdeps other than taxbird and
didn't have serious C modifications at all.

I didn't review taxbird yet, though. I wonder why those two are separate
packages, though, and why you need to touch both instead of placing the
knowledge into one, but I guess that's a design issue that we can't solve.

I'm not opposed to the idea, but I'd like to see the debdiff (also of the
binary result, built on stable). At least for libgeier it probably doesn't
make sense to backport specific changes AFAICS. There are OpenSSL
compatibility fixes we don't need, but they're ifdef'ed.

Kind regards,
Philipp Kern

I presume that we're talking not only about taxbird but also libgeier?

It's not a release team issue.

Backports can be used in some situations but this is for updates to
packages which are otherwise stable, not those which become useless due
to external

See #577760 which would be the correct solution.

Would it be feasible to address this somehow in stable? Please
forgive my ignorance.

Thanks,
Jonathan

There are already some packages available:
http://stuff.der-marv.de/debian/

Uploading to unstable will also be done in a few days.

Taxbird is a program that is used to file Umsatzsteuervoranmeldungen,
a tax issue which needs to be done with current software. Raising
severity to release critical as taxbird 0.15 is useless.

Greetings

Please package new upstream versionfor 2011 tax filing (see
http://www.taxbird.de/2011/01/taxbird-0-16-veroffentlicht/)
The current version does not support 2011 and is therefore useless for most
users
