Bug#624714: gnome-control-center: muting alert sound is ineffective
Control: found -1 1:3.14.1-1 On Thu, 1 Dec 2011 12:02:47 + Jonathan McCrohan jmccro...@gmail.com wrote: I can also confirm this bug. A workaround is to manually mute the sound using dconf-editor: org - gnome - desktop - sound - event-sound Yes, this way one can turn the sound off completely. I'd rather make the volume configurable. Or actually, the best option for me is to re-enable the old'good pc-speaker beeps. I was able to fix this for previous gnome versions by patching metacity, now gnome does not use metacity and I haven't found what to patch. Any help with this? Bug#624714: gnome-control-center: muting alert sound is ineffective
Package: gnome-control-center Version: 1:3.0.0.1-1 Severity: normal I have gone into the sound control panel and muted the alert sound volume (on the Sound Effects tab). The alert sound is played nevertheless and at the same volume. For example, when I am at a shell prompt in the terminal and press backspace, the alert sound still plays. I presume this is the correct tool to manipulate the setting since changing the choice of sound also causes the terminal bell sound to change. I would appreciate it if the sound effects respected the mute setting. -- System Information: Debian Release: wheezy/sid APT prefers unstable APT policy: (500, 'unstable'), (1, 'experimental') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Kernel: Linux 2.6.38-2-amd64 (SMP w/2 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=en_US.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_US.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash Versions of packages gnome-control-center depends on: ii accountsservice 0.6.9-2 query and manipulate user account ii apg 2.2.3.dfsg.1-2 Automated Password Generator - Sta ii desktop-file-utils 0.15-2 Utilities for .desktop files ii gnome-control-center-da 1:3.0.0.1-1 configuration applets for GNOME - ii gnome-desktop-data 2.30.2-2 Common files for GNOME desktop app ii gnome-icon-theme3.0.0-1 GNOME Desktop icon theme ii gnome-icon-theme-symbol 3.0.0-1 GNOME Desktop icon theme (symbolic ii gnome-menus 3.0.0-1 GNOME implementation of the freede ii gnome-settings-daemon 3.0.0.1-1daemon handling the GNOME session ii gsettings-desktop-schem 3.0.0-1 GSettings deskop-wide schemas ii libatk1.0-0 2.0.0-1 The ATK accessibility toolkit ii libc6 2.11.2-13Embedded GNU C Library: Shared lib ii libcairo-gobject2 1.10.2-6 The Cairo 2D vector graphics libra ii libcairo2 1.10.2-6 The Cairo 2D vector graphics libra ii libcanberra-gtk3-0 0.26-3 Gtk+ 3.0 helper for playing widget ii libcanberra00.24-1 a simple abstract interface for pl ii libcomerr2 1.41.12-2common error description library ii libcups21.4.6-5 Common UNIX Printing System(tm) - ii libdbus-1-3 1.4.8-3 simple interprocess messaging syst ii libdbus-glib-1-20.92-1 simple interprocess messaging syst ii libfontconfig1 2.8.0-2.2generic font configuration library ii libfreetype62.4.4-1 FreeType 2 font engine, shared lib ii libgconf2-4 2.32.1-2 GNOME configuration database syste ii libgcrypt11 1.4.6-5 LGPL Crypto library - runtime libr ii libgdk-pixbuf2.0-0 2.23.3-3 GDK Pixbuf library ii libglib2.0-02.28.6-1 The GLib library of C routines ii libgnome-control-center 1:3.0.0.1-1 utilities to configure the GNOME d ii libgnome-desktop-3-03.0.0-1 Utility library for loading .deskt ii libgnome-menu2 3.0.0-1 GNOME implementation of the freede ii libgnomekbd72.91.91-2GNOME library to manage keyboard c ii libgnutls26 2.12.2-2 GNU TLS library - runtime library ii libgssapi-krb5-21.9+dfsg-1+b1MIT Kerberos runtime libraries - k ii libgtk-3-0 3.0.8-1 The GTK+ graphical user interface ii libgtop2-7 2.28.1-1 gtop system monitoring library (sh ii libk5crypto31.9+dfsg-1+b1MIT Kerberos runtime libraries - C ii libkrb5-3 1.9+dfsg-1+b1MIT Kerberos runtime libraries ii libnm-glib4 0.8.998-1network management framework (GLib ii libnm-util2 0.8.998-1network management framework (shar ii libpango1.0-0 1.28.3-6 Layout and rendering of internatio ii libpolkit-gobject-1-0 0.101-4 PolicyKit Authorization API ii libpulse-mainloop-glib0 0.9.21-4 PulseAudio client libraries (glib ii libpulse0 0.9.21-4 PulseAudio client libraries ii libstartup-notification 0.10-1 library for program launch feedbac ii libupower-glib1 0.9.9-4 abstraction for power management - ii libx11-62:1.4.3-1X11 client-side library ii libxi6 2:1.4.2-1X11 Input extension library ii libxklavier16 5.1-1X Keyboard Extension high-level AP ii libxml2 2.7.8.dfsg-2+b1 GNOME XML library ii zlib1g 1:1.2.3.4.dfsg-3 compression library - runtime Versions of packages gnome-control-center recommends: ii gnome-session 3.0.0-2GNOME Session Manager - GNOME 3 se ii gnome-user-guide 3.0.1-1GNOME user's guide ii iso-codes 3.25-1 ISO language, territory,
