Bug#625696: debmirror: please do not forcibly use rsync for trace files

2015-06-14 Thread Thaddeus H. Black
Control: tags -1 + confirmed

Adopting maintenance of debmirror, I wish to
acknowledge this bug. As Joey Hess observes in
[https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=625696#10],
rsync is necessary to enumerate the file list.
Notwithstanding, A Mennucc is probably right that the
rsync solution is not quite right.

No fix for this bug is contemplated, but who knows?
Maybe someone will someday think of suitable fix.
In the meantime, as A Mennucc suggests:

I see your point. So I i'd say,
let's keep this bug standing until someone
has some better ideas.

It's the only way I know to enumerate the file list
(which http does not generally allow doing).

Severity: normal

hi,

regardless of the method of download selected with '--method' ,
debmirror tries to download the trace files using 'rsync' :
this is a bad idea, since the rsync connection is not always
open to the general public (sometimes a password is required)
so the trace files are not downloaded
