Bug#643595: ITP: snes9x -- Cross-platform SNES emulator
Hi Sergio! From the snes9x license file [1]: Snes9x is freeware for PERSONAL USE only. Commercial users should seek permission of the copyright holders first. Commercial use includes, but is not limited to, charging money for Snes9x or software derived from Snes9x, including Snes9x or derivatives in commercial game bundles, and/or using Snes9x as a promotion for your commercial product. Thus, the license is clearly non-free and I'm pretty sure we can't include snes9x under these circumstances. Please seek some legal advice with the Debian Legal team first before we can continue working on the package. Cheers, Adrian [1] https://github.com/snes9xgit/snes9x/blob/master/docs/snes9x-license.txt -- .''`. Bug#643595: ITP: snes9x -- Cross-platform SNES emulator
Snes9x was once in non-free repo, so what's the problem? snes9x CLI (unix) only works with OSS, what's the state of this on debian? Is it usable? I installed osspd here, but I lost the system audio... https://github.com/snes9xgit/snes9x/issues/68 -- Sérgio Benjamim -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. You're welcome. :) I'm not thoroughly review your package but it seems that you bump the standard-versions in this upload to mentors.d.n without any logging in debian/changelog. Hopefully, you already consult /usr/share/doc/debian-policy/upgrading-checklist.txt.gz and no changes needed. Best regards, Neutron Soutmun

There are some spelling errors in the debian/control file, the debhelper version should be bumped to 9 and so on. Cheers, Adrian -- .''`. No problem, I'm still very interested! I don't think I could upload it to Mentors without having put another revision on the changelog (since Félix was the last one to update the package, it asks for his key when signing). I put a fake update and uploaded it to Mentors anyway, but I know you won't upload it like that... Well, you should agree with Felix on who is going to be the maintainer. Or is this going to be a team upload? You don't have to create a new changelog entry, you can just hijack the old one with dch -R. Anyway, the link to the package on Mentors is here: https://mentors.debian.net/package/snes9x Great, I'll have a look. It says that the watch file doesn't work, but the URLs listed checked out, so I'm not sure what the issue with that is. I just CC this to Bart Martens who is an expert on the watch file syntax in the hope he'll create a valid entry for you. He constantly fixes all the watch files for various packages which is incredibly helpful :). Adrian -- .''`. If there's really an issue with the license, the package will get rejected in the worst case. But since the package has been in Debian before, I think chances are good it would be accepted into non-free again. Hi! I can give access to anyone in the git repo. Also, I have some working backport'ed packages on a private repo server. You can add this repo with: deb http://alanturing.cucei.udg.mx/debian gatuno-squeeze main contrib non-free The packages seems to be working, you can try to rebuild them. I don't what else to say, but I want to help in anything that I can. -- Atte. Hi Michael, The old snes9x package was removed (#617588) due to being orphaned, and not being updated in over a year. However, a new upstream release has appeared since then and I have begun packaging it. Do you need a sponsor? I'd be happy to help. Cheers, Adrian -- .''`. Package: wnpp Severity: wishlist Owner: Michael Moorman tensorpud...@devio.us * Package name: snes9x Version : 1.53 Upstream Author : Gary Henderson gary.hender...@ntlworld.com * URL : http://www.snes9x.com * License : Other Programming Lang: C++ Description : Cross-platform SNES emulator The old snes9x package was removed (#617588) due to being orphaned, and not being updated in over a year. However, a new upstream release has appeared since then and I have begun packaging it. The package seems to be non-free, and was listed in non-free previously. The current free alternative in Debian is zsnes, but zsnes is also out-of-date and furthermore is i386 only, whereas snes9x does not have this problem. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe.
