Hi, I've tested that this works with at least the latest version of
 webkit/midori.

You lucky boy! ;-)
I still cannot make it work with midori/0.4.3-1 and
libwebkitgtk-1.0-0/1.6.1-5+b1 on an updated Debian testing box.

Please note that I can play HTML5 videos with chromium, as mentioned in
the original bug report.

Note that youtube can't serve all of its video over
html5 yet, so you may have been testing with some of their flash-only
 stuff?

I am kind of aware of this, but tested with HTML5 videos, such as:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rIj3kpPYh1Mfeature=relmfu
which plays fine with chromium, but fails to start with midori
(it looks as if it were trapped in an endless loop, while waiting to
begin: it only shows the swirling circles, or whatever you want to call
them, and nothing else happens).

Please note that, as I said in the original bug report, I also used the
so-called test-drive suggested by midori FAQ:
http://ie.microsoft.com/testdrive/Graphics/VideoFormatSupport/Default.html
It fails with midori, while it works fine with chromium...

I am therefore reopening the bug report.
I hope we can figure out what's wrong...

Thanks for your patience and helpfulness!

So, I was able to reproduce your issues by removing my gstreamer
libraries. After that, I found that installing
gstreamer0.10-plugins-good and gstreamer0.10-ffmpeg are the needed to
get multimedia working on the sites mentioned above.

I think added those webkit recommends would resolve this issue.

Best wishes,
Mike
