Bug#646015: libpam-modules: pam_env reports missing /etc/environment, which it is deprecated
Package: libpam-modules Version: 1.1.3-2 pam_env reports that /etc/environment is missing, but that file is deprecated in favour of /etc/default/locale. To my opinion PAM configuration files should be updated to ignore the missing /etc/environment pam_env(su:session): Unable to open env file: /etc/environment: No such file or directory pam_env(sshd:setcred): Unable to open env file: /etc/environment: No such file or directory -- With best regards, Dmitry -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. No, it is not. Putting *locale* settings in /etc/environment is deprecated; this is not the same thing as /etc/environment being deprecated. To my opinion PAM configuration files should be updated to ignore the missing /etc/environment The correct solution is to ensure that /etc/environment is always created even if empty. -- Steve Langasek Give me a lever long enough and a Free OS Debian Developer to set it on, and I can move the world. Sorry that I've misunderstood the actual meaning of this deprecation. We still have an issue here, because we *do* need to ensure /etc/environment exists to avoid generating these spurious log messages.
