Bug#651506: gnome-shell: screen becomes glitched when attempting to unlock
Package: gnome-shell Followup-For: Bug #651506 Dear Maintainer, I believe I'm seeing the same bug. In my case, here is what happens: - I see this when coming back to the machine after a while. - I'm not sure if it's always the case, but at least in most cases, the machine has gone to sleep, so before displaying the lock screen, it had to resume. - there are always several people logged in at the same time via gdmflexiserver (at least one other, using XFCE). - when waking up, the lock screen is basically not drawn at all: the screen stays black, with some console/kernel messages about the suspend&resume process displayed in the upper left corner. E.g.: [84202.529410] xhci_hcd :06:00.0: ERROR no room on ep ring [84202.529421] hub 5-1:1.0: activate --> -12 [84203.782129] xhci_hcd :06:00.0: PCI post-resume error -110! [84203.782132] xhci_hcd :06:00.0: HC died, cleaning up [84203.782139] xhci_hcd :06:00.0: HC died, cleaning up [84203.782150] pm_op(): pci_pc_resume+0x0/0x94 returns -110 [84203.782155] PM: Device :06:00.0 failed to resume async: error -110 [This was carefully copied by hand, but it may contain typos. ] If I move the mouse, the arrow cursor moves around just fine, tho slowly/choppily, and sometimes some 32x32 square of the image is "drawn" but not properly (i.e. it's not black, but it isn't a proper part of the normal display either). When the mouse is over what would be the gdm3 login box, the arrow cursor changes from an all-white arrow to a black arrow with white outline. - If I type the password blindly, something happens (not quite sure what: the screen doesn't change, but the arrow-cursor-changes are gone/different. I.e. maybe I was properly logged in, but it's not like I could tell). - Sometimes, if I wait a while and come back to the computer, the lock screen is back to normal. Bug#651506: gnome-shell: screen becomes glitched when attempting to unlock
Package: gnome-shell Version: 3.0.2-8+b1 Severity: important After the computer is locked for a long time, when I try to unlock by moving the mouse, the password prompt appears glitched. The computer becomes slow, and when I am entering password, the dots and the cursor are glitched or missing, so are random elements of opened windows after I press enter. Programs running before locking are: a terminal running two programs in two tabs, transmission with a torrent downloading. I always press ctrl+alt+F1 and reboot (also slow). Sorry I haven't tried killing the two programs or restarting gdm3. My graphics card is intel GMA3150, and I'm using kernel i915 driver. It happened only after recent updates (I often leave these two programs running before), so here's the log: Start-Date: 2011-12-07 07:18:52 Commandline: apt-get dist-upgrade Upgrade: libnfsidmap2:i386 (0.24-3, 0.24-4), procps:i386 (3.3.0-1, 3.3.1-1), libwxgtk2.8-0:i386 (2.8.12.1-3, 2.8.12.1-4), libdrm-intel1:i386 (2.4.27-1, 2.4.28-1), gstreamer0.10-gconf:i386 (0.10.30-2, 0.10.30-2.1), gstreamer0.10-plugins-good:i386 (0.10.30-2, 0.10.30-2.1), libdrm2:i386 (2.4.27-1, 2.4.28-1), libdrm-nouveau1a:i386 (2.4.27-1, 2.4.28-1), libwxbase2.8-0:i386 (2.8.12.1-3, 2.8.12.1-4), gstreamer0.10-pulseaudio:i386 (0.10.30-2, 0.10.30-2.1), libxalan2-java:i386 (2.7.1-5, 2.7.1-7), libdrm-radeon1:i386 (2.4.27-1, 2.4.28-1), keyboard-configuration:i386 (1.74, 1.75), console-setup:i386 (1.74, 1.75), console-setup-linux:i386 (1.74, 1.75) End-Date: 2011-12-07 07:19:50 Start-Date: 2011-12-08 15:17:52 Commandline: apt-get dist-upgrade Install: libgcr-3-1:i386 (3.2.2-1, automatic), libgcr-3-common:i386 (3.2.2-1, automatic), libgnome-desktop-3-2:i386 (3.2.1-3, automatic) Upgrade: gnome-keyring:i386 (3.0.3-2, 3.2.2-1), libpanel-applet-4-0:i386 (3.2.1-1, 3.2.1-1+b1), gnome-shell:i386 (3.0.2-8, 3.0.2-8+b1), nautilus:i386 (3.2.1-2, 3.2.1-2+b1), libnfsidmap2:i386 (0.24-4, 0.25-1), gnome-settings-daemon:i386 (3.0.3-3, 3.0.3-3+b1), gnome-desktop3-data:i386 (3.0.2-2, 3.2.1-3), evolution:i386 (3.0.3-3, 3.0.3-3+b1), libwxgtk2.8-0:i386 (2.8.12.1-4, 2.8.12.1-5), gnome-screensaver:i386 (3.0.1-3, 3.2.0-2+b1), gnome-control-center:i386 (3.0.2-3, 3.0.2-3+b1), libfuse2:i386 (2.8.6-3, 2.8.6-4), libevolution:i386 (3.0.3-3, 3.0.3-3+b1), eog:i386 (3.2.2-2, 3.2.2-2+b1), libwxbase2.8-0:i386 (2.8.12.1-4, 2.8.12.1-5), libnautilus-extension1a:i386 (3.2.1-2, 3.2.1-2+b1), libgksu2-0:i386 (2.0.13~pre1-5, 2.0.13~pre1-6), gnome-panel:i386 (3.2.1-1, 3.2.1-1+b1), libgnome-control-center1:i386 (3.0.2-3, 3.0.2-3+b1), gir1.2-panelapplet-4.0:i386 (3.2.1-1, 3.2.1-1+b1) Remove: libgcr-3-0:i386 (3.0.3-2), libgnome-desktop-3-0:i386 (3.0.2-2) End-Date: 2011-12-08 15:21:40 It seems possible that the bug lies in libdrm, but since it involves locking, gnome is my best guess.
